Abstract:
This research consists of two steps. The first step is the study of basic information about curriculum development to enhance the professional teacher characteristics of the students, which consists of two parts. 1) The needs assessment of professional teacher characteristics of students of the Faculty of Education, Yala Rajabhat University. The sample of 239 students are selected by stratified sampling. The tool for data collection is a questionnaire about the needs assessment for professional teacher characteristics for which the reliability is 0.81. The data are analyzed by mean, S.D., and needs value. 2) The study of guidelines for enhancing the professional teacher characteristics of students according to the opinions of eight experts. The tool used for data collection is semi-structured interviews which are analyzed by content analysis. The second step is the development of the curriculum to enhance the professional teacher characteristics of the students. This step comprises four parts. 1) Curriculum drafting which uses the information from the basic information study to draft the curriculum according to the process of curriculum development. 2) Curriculum quality examination by seven experts in professional teacher characteristics, curriculum development and teaching, and measurement and evaluation. The tool for data collection is an assessment form for the suitability and consistency of the curriculum. 3) Curriculum testing with the sample group consisting of 24 students in semester 2 of the educational year 2017 from the Faculty of Education, Yala Rajabhat University. The tools for data collection are the curriculum for enhancing professional teacher characteristics and a professional teacher characteristics test of 50 multiple-choice questions with four choices for which the range of difficulty (p) is 0.43 - 0.63, the range of discrimination (r) is 0.36 - 0.89, and the reliability (rₜₜ) is 0.96. The satisfaction assessment form for the curriculum for enhancing professional teacher characteristics is analyzed by mean and S.D. 4) The public hearing for the curriculum for enhancing professional teacher characteristics of 24 students and teachers from the Faculty of Education, Yala Rajabhat University. The tool for data collection is a questionnaire asking about opinions of the curriculum and analyzed by mean and S.D. From the study the results can be shown as follows:
1. The needs of professional teacher characteristics from the highest are knowledge sharing preference, responsibility sharing, understanding and accepting, creativity support, and kindness and good wishes. The experts have the opinion that the guidelines for enhancing professional teacher characteristics of students consist of teacher characteristics which are consistent with the curriculum objectives for the basic education level, especially for 21st-century skills in which the role of teachers is to support students. Moreover, professional teacher graduates should have professional characteristics consistent with teaching professional standards according to The Teachers' Council of Thailand to enhance knowledge sharing, responsibility sharing, accepting, and creativity support.
2. Curriculum for enhancing the professional teacher characteristics of students.
2.1 The curriculum covers the components, history and importance, objectives, structure, learning subjects, media and learning resources, and learning measurement and assessment. The curriculum structure can be separated into five units which need 15 hours each to arrange the learning activity. The curriculum is highly suitable and consistent with all components.
2.2 The professional teacher characteristics of students are very high. The post-test score is higher than the pre-test score overall with the statistical significance at the level of .01. Moreover, the students are highly satisfied with the application of the curriculum for enhancing their professional teacher characteristics at a very high level.
2.3 Teachers of the Faculty of Education, Yala Rajabhat University, highly agree with the curriculum for enhancing the professional teacher characteristics of the students of the Faculty of Education.
