A Study of English Reading Skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province
Abstract:
The purposes of research were: 1) to study the problems of English reading skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, 2) to find out the ways to improve English reading skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province and 3) to suggest the ways to develop the problems of English reading skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
This study was a mixed methods between a qualitative and quantitative research. A questionnaire was used for collecting quantitative data form 30 students and an in-depth interview is used for collecting qualitative data from 3 key informants. An analyzing quantitative data statistics including Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation (SD) was used and a content analysis was used for analysis.
Results of the study are as follows:
1. Findings from study problem of English speaking skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, it found that the first cause of study problems of English reading skills from students were ( =4.03,
S.D.= .057). The results were indicated as high level of reading skills, and second cause is about problem of study reading skill through students were ( =3.54, S.D.=.057). The results were indicated as high level of study reading skill through students.
2. Findings from study the ways to improve English reading skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. It revealed that the overall level was ( =3.44, S.D.=.059). The results were indicated as medium level of the way to improve English reading skills.
3. Findings from proposing the ways to solve the problems of English reading skills of Matthayom Sueksa 3 Students at Jirasat School in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The results of the interview data showed that in order to develop their English ability, most participants practice more in reading, listening, and speaking. They watched soundtrack movies, listened to western music, and read English texts or literature. The more students read the more interest they will get in reading. Students should adapt reading skills by themselves and learn adapting new teaching techniques, only that the parents also should promote kinds of reading at home.
