A Study of English Speaking Skills of Grade Eleventh Students
Abstract:
The purposes of research were: 1) to study the problems of English speaking skills of the grade eleventh students at Pakthongchai prachaniramit School, 2) to find out the way to improve English speaking skills of the grade eleventh at Pakthongchaiprachaniramit School and 3) to propose the ways to solve the problems of English speaking skills of the grade eleventh at Pakthongchaiprachaniramit School.
This study was a mixed methods between a qualitative and quantitative research. A questionnaire was used for collecting quantitative data form 69 students and an in-depth interview is used for collecting qualitative data from 6 key informants. An analyzing quantitative data statistics including Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation (SD) was used and a content analysis was used for analysis.
Results of the study are as follows:
1. Findings from study problem of English speaking skills of the grade eleventh students at Pakthongchaiprachaniramit School, it found that the first cause
of study problems of English speaking skills from students were ( =3.70, S.D.=.494). The results were indicated as high level of English speaking skills, and second cause was about problem of study speaking skill through social media was ( =3.84, S.D.=.336). The results were indicated as high level of study speaking skill through social media.
2. Findings from study the ways to improve English speaking skills of the grade eleventh at Pakthongchaiprachaniramit School. It revealed that the overall level was ( =3.97, S.D.=.466). The results were indicated as high level of the way to improve English speaking skills.
3. Findings from proposing the ways to solve the problems of English speaking skills of the grade eleventh at Pakthongchaiprachaniramit School. The Researcher had interviewed some distinguished English and Thai teachers from school, and found that most of them gave similar answers to the root causes of English speaking problems as mentioned earlier. They said that many EFL learners around the world face the same problems with English speaking, they are shy to speak comparing their English level to others that make them unwilling to speak. Therefore, EFL learners should dare to speak, dare to make a mistake.
