A Study of English Phobia in Public Speaking of the Fourth Year Myanmar Students in the Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
Abstract:
This research entitled A Study of English phobia in Public Speaking of the fourth year Myanmar Students in the Faculty of Humanities, Machulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. Comprises objectives: 1) to study the causes of English phobia in Public Speaking of the fourth year Myanmar students in the Faculty of Humanities, MCU: 2) to analyze the causes of problems of English phobia in public speaking of the fourth year Myanmar students in the Faculty of Humanities, MCU. The study is a mixed method between quantitative and qualitative ones in nature. Questionnaires are used from collecting quantitative data from 55 respondents and in-depth interview is used for collecting qualitative data from 5 key informants. Statistics including Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation (S.D) are used for quantitative data and a content analysis is used for analyzing qualitative data.
Findings of the study were as below:
1. From a study of the causes of English phobia in public speaking of the fourth year Myanmar students in the Faculty of Humanities, MCU. It is found that Bachelor of Arts the fourth year Myanmar Students English phobia in public speaking was generally high, while considering each part in average the aspects of pronunciation were good, the aspects of vocabulary were very good, the aspects of grammar were good, the aspects of confidence were very good and strategy use were very good.
2. In respect of analysis of the causes of problems of English phobia in public speaking of the fourth year Myanmar students English phobia in public speaking included. 1) Students had the problems with English pronunciation, 2) Students had problems with vocabulary, 3)Students had the problems with grammar, 4) Students had the problems with confidence, and 5) Students had problems with strategy uses of public speaking and including introduction, body and conclusion
