The Methods of Dhamma Teaching in English at Asokayama Buddhist Academy Loikaw, Kayah State in Myanmar
Abstract:
The objectives of this study are 1) to identify the problems of the method of Dhamma teaching in English at Asokayama Buddhist Academy Loikaw, Kayah State in Myanmar and 2) to propose the solutions of the problems on the methods of Dhamma teaching in English at Asokayama Buddhist Academy Loikaw, Kayah State in Myanmar. The populations and sample of the study are 14 teachers. A mixed method between quantitative and qualitative method was used for this research. The questionnaire, In-depth interview sections and additional comments were the main research instrument for this study. The data of this study were analyzed by using percentage, means, averages and standard deviation (S.D).
The result of research was found that:
The result of the general background: the result of the general background of participants was all of the respondents Buddhist monks, and they like teaching of Dhamma, mostly over 30 years old. The experience of respondents in learning Dhamma and teaching Dhamma were 6 8 years and over 9 years. They favorite subject of teaching and favorite skill in teaching Dhamma were Pali grammar subject and read skill. Level of education of respondents was Dhammacariya degree.
The result of objective one: the answers of the respondents to the research questionnaire, the level of the study was moderate, equal to x̅ = 3.36 average because half of teachers had the problems in the method of Dhamma teaching.
The result of objective two: the level of result was high, equal to x̅ = 3.72 average because of most of teachers wanted to solve the problems in the method of Dhamma teaching.
The result of in-depth interview: the result was that the pupils must have Pali words, must have Nissaya and the teacher explain the Pali words in detail to pupils.
