Pressure response in large amplitude oscillation flow of concentrated particle suspension

Abstract: We examined the large amplitude oscillating flow of concentrated particle suspension. The flow regime used in this experiment was a reciprocal flow produced by moving up and down a bob in a cylinder. The test fluid was the mixture of acrylic particles and glycerin, and the volume fraction of particle was 40 vol.%. Measuring the pressure response during a flow, we confirmed that the phase delay in the pressure response against the bob velocity occurred. Furthermore, the examination of the shear characteristics from the results of pressure response indicated that the relationship between the shear stress and the shear rate showed a nonlinear viscoelasticity. It was found that the nonlinear behavior of shear stress was caused by the elastic effect of particle suspension
