Abstract:
The objective of this industrial research project was to reduce error in the production planning of
plastic bag production by obtaining the required amount of film needed by the machines to produce
three side-seal plastic bags. This research considered 4 types of three side-seal bags: 1. regular three
side-seal bags, 2. three side-seal bags with zipper, 3. three side-seal pouch bags, 4. three side-seal
pouch bags with zipper. The data were collected to determine the setup loss and the production loss
for each of the machines. Next, the required amount of the required raw material was calculated,
based on the data of the setup and production losses, and applied for production planning. The
calculation utilized the following formula: the required raw material = N + IlsL + N*(IlPL) where N
was the required finished products, IlSL was the mean setup loss, and Il PL was the mean production
loss. The results after the new calculation of the required raw material was applied showed that the
percentage ofthe shortage ofthe finished goods was reduced from 2.5 to merely 0.8.
