Abstract:
This research proposed a method generate one-dimensional cutting plan in a fire
protection pipe fabrication of a building construction project. The objective of this research aimed
to minimize net raw material cost which is the cost of material deducted from value of scrap after
cutting. This building construction project requires 936.125 meters of fire protection pipe that
include three diameter size of the pipe; 1 inches, 1.5 inches, and 2 inches. Each size requires 9
different cutting lengths, approximately, and different number of cutting pieces for each cutting
length. To generate cutting plan, this research used four heuristics for one-dimensional cutting
stock problem called maximum length, min length, random, and greedy randomized. The results
revealed that the maximum length heuristic provided the cutting plan with minimum cost
compared to other heuristics. It also outperformed the cutting plan generated from experience of
current planner.
