An investigation of the preferences for career development of Taiwanese and Non-Taiwanese flight attendants in selected aviation companies in Taiwan

Abstract: Based on the historical review, the majority that undertake the rigorous selection for the flight attendant, followed with the quality training, the work force must be full of high employee morale and that can bring good satisfaction to the passenger. Although the personnel system rarely looks at employee morale and how it effects performance levels however, owing to the nationality resulting in the difference of wage payment and the promotion, the employee morale as well as the impact on the entire revenue is the focal point of this research. This survey has been carried out between 1st March 2018 to 15th June, 2018 when questionnaires were collected from Taiwanese, Japanese and Thai cabin crew of China Airlines, and from Taiwanese at EVA Air. The empirical study finds that the relationship between the employee’s selection and the employee morale (job involvement and organizational identification) is in positive association. The personnel system has a moderating effect on the relationship between employee’s training & selection and employee morale. The nationality also leads to different benefits. Therefore, it leads to lower job involvement and organizational identification for expatriate cabin crew. Airlines should maintain the spirit of the management philosophy of peaceful culture for its operation when managing employees from different nationalities. By using the cross-cultural devotion, embracing international cooperation within the corporation they can share and enjoy fruitful accomplishments.
