Developing Reward Systems for Promoting Employee Motivation: Case Study Construction Business of ABC Store Tha Wang Thong Sub-District Mueang District Phayao
Abstract:
This study aims to develop ABC stores reward systems for promoting employee motivation by using mixed model research design, which integrates quantitative research with qualitative research. The research design is as follows. First, Decenzo and Robbins (2009) concept of reward systems and Browns (2001) Reward Gap Analysis (referred to Armstrong, 2006) were used to develop questions for semi structured face-to-face interviews with the owner and 5 employees. The interview data were then analyzed in order to identify factors which influence employee motivation. Second, the factors identified by the interviews were used to develop questionnaire. 50 questionnaires were distributed to the employees. Data from the 40 completed questionnaires were finally analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlations, and regression.
From quantitative and qualitative analyses, it is found that employee retention, as well as absence and working years, can be the effective indicators of employee motivation. To promote employee motivation, ABC store should give the employees opportunities to participate in the companys decision making at the meetings and should assign them the responsibilities of taking care the valuable products. Importantly, the company should attach the importance to promote employee motivation by using non financial rewards rather than financial rewards.
