The virtual panorama 360° of Thai historical and religious places in lower north provinces for sustainable ecotourism
Abstract:
The Virtual Reality (VR) technology and immersive spherical panoramas are ubiquitous content for the presentation of premises and atmosphere to an event. Along with the first-person perspective of VR and immersive spherical panoramas has attracted consumers to have an involved experience to places with the use of a personal computer, mobile phone, and even the VR headset. Above mentioned, VR technology is contributed to the tourism industry along various applications. Due to the benefits for intending to promote and market the places along the geolocation services, the consumer will use for searching an information of interesting places in widespread. Moreover, the immersive virtual panoramas will encourage ecotourism and sustainable conscience from sharing these contents along the social network. This paper proposed the development of virtual panorama 360° contents, thus gather a series of overlapping images from the single-lens reflex camera. The Harris corner detection and SIFT algorithms were adopted for stitching and blending images together to be the seamless equirectangular projection. The development was based on Python and scipy framework. This project was contributed the virtual panorama 360° scene from 16 location of Thai historical and religious places in nine lower north provinces areas, which were a part of Thailand lower north research network.
