A Study of English Communication of Tourist Information Staff at Wat Arun Rajawararam

Abstract: This study consists of two objectives, namely: 1) to study English communication problems of the tourist information staff at Wat Arun Rajawararam as English standard usage, 2) to analyze the results of English communication problems of the tourist information staff at Wat Arun Rajawararam as English standard usage. It is the mixed method research (qualitative and quantitative), the target group is the tourist information staff at Wat Arun Rajawararam for 60 persons and the tools used in this one are the questionnaire, in-depth interview and focus group discussion; nevertheless, the researcher analyses the data through the statistic of mean, percentage, standard deviation and content analysis. The result of the research was found that the problems of tourist information staff at Wat Arun Rajawararam come from their low education, 29 persons finished the secondary school and its mean is equal to = 48.33%; furthermore, most of them have low income in average for 6,000-10,000 baht/month for 31 persons and its mean is equal to =51.66%; however, they are high age in average for 41 years up for 30 persons and the mean is equal to =50%. When the researcher held the training activity to train the staff about the English found that the motivation got scores before training at 4.05 and after project at 6.59 and the mean is equal to 5.50; moreover, English skills received such scores before activity at 5.34 and after one at 6.66 and its’ mean is equal to 6.00 and also the usage resulted the marks before project at 1.95 and after one at 7.05 and the mean is equal to 4.50. Besides, the application affected the scores of before training at 3.21 and after this at 5.97 and the mean is equal to 6.00 as there are statistically significant at 0.00
