Accommodation business competency development for tourists in Thailand
Abstract:
This research is interested in how competencies that the firm possesses might be configured in order to achieve competitive advantages. The process of identifying firm core competencies regularly entails having employees identify core competencies by scanning and assessing substantial critical resources, capabilities, and competencies. This research addressed the question What factors determine the perception of successful organizational competency development in tourist accommodation in Thailand?" The research focuses on how tourist accommodation entrepreneur can achieve success in business. The research uses a strategy management conceptual to understand successful organizational competency development via strategy implementation.
A mixed-method research approach was used to investigate the environmental factors that contribute to the perception of successful business strategy implementation with OTE framework lens. Furthermore, it was used to investigate the factors that can contribute to the perception of successful organizational competency development leading to improved organizational performances with the McKinsey Seven Ss (7Ss) approach in a selection of various accommodation classification. The sixteen business properties from four tourist destinations of Thailand were included. There were Chiangmai, Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket. The key informants were hotel representative such as business owners, general manager, or management level position within the organization. The findings from case studies indicated that the factors under organizational context, technological context, and environmental context were affected by the perception of a successful business implementation strategy. Also, for quantitative phase, to confirm the outcomes of the case study research a survey was developed and administered to over 1,050 participants in tourist accommodation in a whole Thailand and across types and management of accommodation. The data were analyzed by using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Furthermore, in this study, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to estimate the value of the factor loadings between the indicators and the research factors.
In enhancing the understanding of the factors that can contribute to the perception of successful organizational competency development that leading to improved organizational performances in tourist accommodation in Thailand. For theoretical implications, the study can be used as a basis for further research that explores tourist accommodation business in Thailand about other organizational, technological and environmental factors, using a qualitative approach. For practical implications, it extends the understanding of substantial previous research and illustrates the advantages of organizational competency development through the adoption of the business strategy development theory such as OTE framework and the McKinsey Seven S's framework. These success factors can contribute to the existing literature in terms of providing a broader understanding of what is involved explicitly in successful organizational competency development planning in tourist accommodation business in Thailand. Over the past years, numbers of sources for competitive advantage have been identified by an academician. There are organization resource and capabilities, excellence in business strategy implementation, quality, time, and business innovation and creativity.
