Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to experiment on the training of the Hill Tribe Teachers aids to be in order that they will be qualified in teaching Science to the Hill Tribe children. It was also to evaluate the Science text books specially prepared for the Hill Tribe children by the Department of Elementary Education, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. The materials used in this research were the special curriculum particularly arranged toe suit this project, the Science text books, for the Hill Tribe Children, teachers guides, tests, practice teaching evaluation forms, text books evaluation forms and method of teaching Science. This training which involved 55 trainees selected by the Hill Tribe Development and Welfare Center took place in Mae Sariang district, Mae Hongson province. The research data had been collected from the scores of pre-test and post-test, academic achievement, teaching progress and practice teaching. Results : 1. The progress of the trainees was measured by their teaching progress; academic achievement and practice teaching was satisfactory. 2. The arithmetic mean (X̅) of pre test and post test showed significant difference at the level of .01 and the arithmetic mean of post test was 7.91 more than the arithmetic mean of pre test. 3. The correlation coefficient between the academic achievement and practice teaching was 0.38 with significance at the level of .01 4. The educational beackground and status of the trainees as analysed by (X²) method had no significance to the teaching ability at the level of .05 5. The trainees were able to understand the subject matter in the Science Text books. Moreover, the special curriculum, text books, teachers guides, tests, practice teaching evaluation forms, text books evaluation forms, and method of Science teaching had been proven effective. Therefore, the experiment on the training of teachers aids in teaching Science to the hill tribe children was successful.
