Abstract:
Situation of unrest in three southern border provinces for more than 10 years causes violence and loss to people and practitioners maintaining peace of the country. Navies areparts of practitioners who have their lives risky to dangerous in this area.Purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting stress among navies working in Narathiwat province. Participants were 300 marines of Chulaborn camp, special operation unit in southern part of the country. Data has been collected during April to May,2017. Participants were selected by multistage random sampling. Research instruments were self-report questionnaires including personal information, stress assessment, pressure on life in the past one year, family relationship, coping behavior, and working environment. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression. The results of the study revealed that: the average sample age was 29.25 years old (SD = 10.37). The average rank was non-commissioned, 63.70% were married, and 85.30% had a bachelor's degree, 90.00%. Average monthly income was 19,304.76 baht. (SD = 6.70), and the duration of service at Narathiwat province from the date until the data collection date is a median of 1 year (IQR = 1 year). Factors related to stress but not predicted stress levels were rank (ranks-commissioned or commissioned) (r= - .11, p< .01). Findings suggest that health care personnel responsible to care for military working in dangerous areas would assess soldiers stress and coping behavior. Then would encourage them to use effective coping behavior. Moreover, would advise them to improve their working environment to be comfortable contributable to their safety feeling in a workplace.
