Abstract:
Purposes: 1. To study the background of and to construct a General Science 102 Instructional Package for the Certificate of Educational Level. 2. To determine the effectiveness of the Instructional Package. 3. To compare student achievement in General Science 102 with the Instructional Package and the Lecture Method at the Certificate of Education Level. Procedures: 1. Construction of five General Science 102 Instructional Packages, and conduct of pre and post-tests for each packages. 2. Evaluation of the five packages by certain experts. 3. Determination of the effectiveness of the five packages experimental use with one, Ten and them thirty participants in turn and then taking the post-test results with the ten and thirty participants to calculate the effectiveness by using the 90/90 criterion. 4. Determination of the significant difference between the arithmetic means of pre-test and post-test results examine the learning progress of each of the selected students. 5. Comparison of the achievement between learning with the instructional packages and with the lecture method, using two groups of students The Experimental Group: Pre-test, use of instructional package and post-test. The Control Group: Pre-test, learning directly from the teacher and post-test. Determination of the significant difference between the arithmetic means of the pre-test and the post-test results of both groups by using the T-test. Results: 1. The average score of the instructional packages as evaluated by the experts was 87.99. 2. The average effectiveness of the five packages was as follow: 90.65/87.62 with the group of ten students. 91.14/87.28 with the group of thirty students. 3. The difference between the arithmetic means of the pre-test and the post-test scores was significant at the .01 level. This shows that students knowledge had been increased. 4. The results of learning with the package and with the lecture method indicated the following: -If comparison was done with each group separately, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group at the .05 level. If comparison was done with the aggregate of the five groups significant difference between the experimental group and the control group at the .05 level. Recommendation: 1.Learning results will be better where packages are presented in series rather than when presented singly. 2. More instructional packages should be constructed to encompass all subject field as well as complete courses. 3. More research on instructional packages should be conducted.
