Abstract:
The objective of this research is to compare dead load, construction cost, construction duration and net present value (NPV) of composite structure buildings to those of reinforcedconcrete structure buildings so that the findings of this research can be used as preliminary information for the selection of the super-structure system. The methodology of this research is to gather the data of a number of composite as well as reinforced concrete buildings. Quantity-take off has been performed in order to obtain weight and construction cost of those buildings. These data are then used to generate the characteristics between the weight and coilstruction costs against the height of buildings. The net present value (NPV) of each building is then used to compare economic performance ofthe two structural systems being considered the results indicate that dead load ,construction duration and net present value (NPV) of composite structure buildings are smaller than those of reinforced concrete buildings that use vertical load resisting system ie. Post tensioned flat slab and cast-in- place beam slab. However, the study reveals that the construction cost of composite structure buildings is higher than that of reinforced concrete buildings that use vertical load resisting systein ie are. Post-tensions flat slab and cast-in-place beam slab. The finding of the rcscarch can be suininarized in to 3 main points. First, the selection ofstructural materials is very important because it affects the dead load as well as construction cost . Second, the vertical load resisting system plays a vital role to the duration of construction. Finally, net present value is changeable depending on constructioncost and duration.
