Abstract: Entrepreneurial leadership (EL) is an important issue as it impacts venture performance. Research on EL in social entrepreneurship is scant. Based on a survey of 70 social entrepreneurs in Thailand, this study investigates how EL affects and mediates effects on venture performance. The results show that leadership skills (LS), entrepreneurial characteristics (EC), and EL are all positively related with venture performance. Surprisingly, EL does not mediate the effects of LS or EC. Explanations for these surprising findings are provided. Consequently, the study advances understanding of EL and how EL impacts performance of social ventures.
