Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to examine buying behavior of underground lotteries among people living in Wang Nam Yen Sub-district and to investigate the relationship between personal factors, including gender, age, marital status, educational level, occupation, average amount of monthly income, andtheir behavior in buying underground lotteries. The subjects participating in this study were 400 residents of Wang Nam Yen Sub-district. To collect the data, a questionnaire was used. The statistical tests used to analyze the collected data included frequency, percentage, and Chi-square. The results of the study revealed that the majority of people have been buying underground lotteries on a regular basis since they were 18-30 years old. They bought underground lotteries because of peer influences. Also, they used a technique of multiplication when buying underground lotteries. In addition, they selected the digits on underground lotteries based on their dreams. They bought underground lotteries from the syndicates, paying 100-300 baht a time. Often times, they were more likely to lose their bets than gaining them. This caused them financial problems. Finally, it was shown that there was no relationship between the subjects personal factors, including gender, age, marital status, educational level, occupation, average monthly income and their behavior in buying underground lotteries at a significant level of 0.05.
