Abstract:
Cassava starch loss during processing is a vital problem in cassa\.a starch production.Usually. the major starch loss o c c m in extrsctors used to separate starch from rasped cassavaroots. Water injection during filtration can be cnhanced the blocking. Typically, the raspedcassai.a starch sluny fonns cake that create a rapid blocking. The influence parameters for h estarch estraction are the ratio of liquid and solid in h e sluny (L/S ratio) and pressure drop.When the L S ratio increases. the separation efficiency and the spccific cake resistance increase.In contrast. the separation efficiency decreases as the pressure drop increase. Because the cakewas compressedw hen the prtssurr drop incrtnscd made the cake dense. Therefore, the starchparticles were difficult to separate by the \vatu extraction. In order ro destruction of cakefonnation, the w.ater injection can be applicd. The \vater injection can enhance the starchparticles to convey by water through the screen during filtration. It is found that the usage ofwater injection during fi1tra:ion increases the starch separation cffic~ency about two time . Ifthese results are applied for cassava starch production, it will increase the starch separationefficiency.
