Abstract:
This research aims to study working stress and stress management of the accountants in Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.Karasek's (1979) questionnaire which Pichaya Thongsook, and Nuan Taapakpipakul (2005) translated, was used to measure work stress level. The samples in this study were 138 of the finance and accounting staff of the Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Nakhon Ratchasima province.Completed 91 sets of returned questionnaires were analyzed. The statistics applied to this research are t-test, F-test (One-way ANOVA) and Pearson Correlation.The results found that the majority of the respondents who are finance and accounting staff were women between the ages of 36-40 and had work experience about 7-10 years. Forty-two respondents had moderate levels of stress which is an appropriate level of stress that is good for the job.
The study of how the accountants manage their stress showed that the stress management strategy of an accountant was different depending on the facing situation. Meanwhile, under the same situation, each of the respondents manage the stress by using different strategy. The result indicated that most stress management strategies decided by the accountants were seeking support from the others and avoiding the problem, depending on determined circumstances.
Additionally, the hypotheses testing presented that the level of stress differed greatly over age, position, and work duration.For the stress management strategy, the age is the only individual factor affecting it. Last but not lease, the level of working stress was significantly had a positive correlation with the stress management.
