Abstract:
Purposes 1. To survey teachers' and guardians' opinions toward desirable [characteristics] of Prathom Suksa Six students in Bangkok Metropolis : behavioral performance on studying, health and security habits, economic efficiency, personality, good member of the family, and civic responsibility. 2. To study how correlated the teachers' and guardians' opinions mentioned above were. Procedures Six hundred questionnaires were sent to one hundred and fifty teachers and four hundred and fifty guardians of Prathom Suksa Six students in Bangkok Metropolis. Five hundred and ninety eight questionnaires were obtained. Percentage, means, standard deviations, and Spearman's rank-difference correlations(ƍ) were used to analyze the data. Findings Teachers and guardians had the most similar points of view concerning desirable characteristics about behavioral performance on studying of Prathom Suksa Six students. The most importance were to be diligent, concentrated, and responsible for their studying; and to be curious and dare to ask teachers. The opinions about health and security habits of students, teachers and guardians emphasised on physical and mental health; knowledge about drugs; and protection of personal and public health. In every instance, the desirable characteristics of students about economic efficiency fell at [intermediate] importance level of both teachers' and guardians' evaluation, while the most important one was to utilize and take care of their own things. Teachers' and guardians' opinions toward the most important desirable characteristics about students' personality were moral and friendly relationship to people; to be responsible; and to apply religions for upgrading their soul. The desirable characteristics about good member of the family, teachers and guardians emphasised on closed relationship with parents and relatives and consulting them when there were problems. About civic responsibility, the most important desirable characteristics were obedient to laws; to be pround of our national sovereignty, religion, and our Royal Highness Institution. The findings indicated that, all of the desirable characteristics of Prathom Suksa Six students which were devided into six parts, the relationships between teachers' and guardians' opinions were positive, and all of the tests were statistically significant at the .01 level.
