The reading of educational journals of elementary school teachers under the jurisdiction of the Office of the National Primary Education Commission as perceived by themselves
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to study the reading of Thai educational journals of elementary school teachers under the jurisdiction of the office of the National Primary Education Commission as perceived by themselves. The results were as follows: 1) The reading of Thai educational journals of elementary school teachers. On the average. was twice to three times a week during lunch time at home. They borrowed the journals from schools library and they chose the journals by themselves according to their need and interest. After reading, they tried to remember the main ideas. The objective of reading of educational journals was to get new knowledge. 2) Teachers who used to read educational journals thought that the reading was very useful to their teaching. But the number of journals was not enough for readers. Besides academic matters, they were interested in news and miscellaneous. The educational journals that teachers were interested in order of frequency were: 1. Pracha Suksa 2. Kru Thai 3. Mitkru 4. Kuruspas News 5. Sarn Pattanalaksut 6. Primary Education Commissions News 7. Wittayajarn 8. Karuparitsorn 9. Wittayasarn 10. Prachaban. As for the columns in the journals, the teachers were interested in new concepts and articles about educational analysis and criticism. Besides this, the teachers wanted at the high level, to increase the number of journals in schools library, to arrange the journals in a proper way, and to find librarians as friendly persons and good helpers. The teachers wanted to borrow journals 1 -2 issues for 3 days. They found that they could get news about education movement and useful idea for their teaching. The problem was that they didnt have much time to read and there wasnt any educational journals in schools library. 3) The opinions of teachers who didnt use to read educational journals were that they got knowledge by reading other education books. The usefulness of reading was to increase knowledge and to get creative idea. The problem that they didnt read educational journals was that they didnt have much time and the service of schools library was not good.
