The relationship between knowledge about chemicals and its application in daily life of prathom suksa six students in elementary schools under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok metropolitan administration
Abstract:
Purposes The purposes of this study were to study knowledge about chemicals, to study its application in daily life, and to investigate the relationship between knowledge about chemicals and its application in daily life of Prathom Suksa six students. Procedures Research instruments were Knowledge about Chemicals Test and the interviewed form about its application in daily life which were constructed by the researcher. The reliability coefficient of the Knowledge about Chemicals Test was 0.78. The subjects participating in this study were 440 Prathom suksa six students in schools under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, academic year 1984. The Knowledge about chemicals Tests were given to these 440 students and then 110 students were chosen by random sampling for interviewing. The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the Pearsons product Moment C0rrelation coefficient. Results: 1. Mean score of Knowledge about chemicals was 26.23 which was higher than 50 percents of the total scores (50 marks). There were 63.18% of the students whose scores on knowledge about chemicals were between 40% to 50%. This range of scores was considered as a fair level.2. Mean score of its application in daily life was 8.91 which was lower than 50 percents of the total scores (20 marks). There were 53.64% of the students whose scores on its application in daily life were between 40% to 59%. This range of score was considered as a fair level. 3. There was a significant relationship between knowledge about chemicals and its application in daily life at the .01 level, the correlation coefficient was 0.434.
