Abstract:
This research aimed to develop a model for administration of the student care and support system in schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 6. The research composed of three steps: 1) studied situation and problems of the student care and support system in the schools. Data were collected from 240 related persons by using questionnaires and in-depth interview with 12 persons; 2) constructed a model of the student care and support system for the schools using the data obtained from the first step for drafting a pattern, which later was assessed for suitability through a group discussion with 5 experts; and 3) an assessment of feasibility and utility of the developed system by a focus group of 48 school administrators. The data were analyzed by using mean and Standard Deviation.
Results of the research were as follows:
1. The status of the student care and support system in the schools in an overall is at a high level, and the problem of the student care and support system in the schools is at a moderate level.
2. The developed model for administration of the student care and support system in the schools composes of three elements: Element 1: the student care and support system comprises 1) the student care and support system, 2) knowing student individually, 3) promoting student development, 4) preventing and solving problem, and 5) transferring. Element 2: Role of counseling teacher comprises 1) compiling the basic data from individual student records, 2) adding data for find students, 3) analyzing data individual student and compile data system, 4) classifying of students for normal group, risk group, and trouble group, 5) visiting student home, 6) providing activities suited specific students, 7) individually suggestion, 8) meeting regular homeroom, 9) building relationship with families and to have parents meeting, and 10) reporting about students behavior normally. Element 3: Management process comprises 1) planning, 2) organizing, 3) staffing, 4) directing, 5) coordinating, and 6) reporting.
3. The developed model evaluated by the school administrators is appropriate and feasible at a high level.
