THE RELATION BETWEEN EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT AND FAMILY COMMUNICATION PATTERNS WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER ATTENDING CHILD PSYCHIATRIC OUTPATIENT UNIT OF KING CHULALONGKORN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Abstract:
This descriptive study aimed to study on Emotional Quotient (EQ), and the relationship between EQ and family communication patterns of ADHD children in attending child psychiatric unit of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. The data were collected during November 2015 to January 2016 from 106 parents of ADHD children in attending child psychiatric unit of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital Parent completed three questionnaires concerning data, family communication patterns by Parichart Tarapattaporn concept of Kanter and Lehr and emotional quotient by Thai Emotional quotient for ages 6-11 from Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health. The reliability of questionnaire was 0.94. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. 57.5% of ADHD children have normal level of Virtue. 66.0% of ADHD children have normal level of Competence. 49.1% of ADHD children have normal level of Happiness. 70.8% of ADHD children have closed family communication patterns. 55.7% of ADHD children have open family communication patterns. 74.5% of ADHD children have random family communication patterns. Related factors with statistically significant to emotional quotient included parental age and occupation as well as school-record of ADHD child. There is a positive correlation between open family communication patterns. Emotional Quotient with statistically significant at the <0.01 level. This study found that parental age, occupation, school-record and family communication patterns is open family communication could predict better emotional quotient. This study showed importance of family communication patterns, parental age and occupation as well as school-record of ADHD children, The data apply benefit for practice and research to next time.
