A study on utilization of school curriculum document and supplements of the primary teachers under the jurisdiction of the Office of Pathom Thant Provincial Primary Education
Abstract:
Purposes: To study the situation and problems of the utilization of the school curriculum document and supplements of the primary teachers under jurisdiction of the office of Pathum Thani Provincial Primary Education. Procedures: The sample used in the research was consisted of 340 teachers in the primary school under jurisdiction of Pathum Thani Provincial Primary Education. The sample was randomized in the form of stratified random sampling techniques. A set of questionnaire concerning the situation of the school curriculum document and supplements was used by means of gathering the research data. Ninety-five percent of the questionnaire were completed and returned. The data were analysed by means of prequency, percentage and chi-square. Findings: 1. The situation of the utilization of the school curriculum document and supplements for learning and instruction: it was found that what the teachers usually used were text books, teacher's manuals/teaching manuals and lesson plans. What the teachers often used were supplementary reading books, external reading books, reinforcement reading books and what the teacher rarely used were the main curriculum, references and curriculum guide-line. 2. The teachers who hold the bachelor's degree and lower did not show any differences in using the school curriculum document and supplements considered from the questionnaire. But some types of supplements showed that the teachers with lower educational background seemed to used the curriculum and curriculum guideline more than the group of teachers who hold the bachelor's degree. 3. There was no difference in the utilization of the school curriculum document and supplements within the groups of class teachers and special teachers. 4. The differences in teaching experience did not affect the utilization of the school curriculum document and supplements. But some types of supplements showed that the teachers who had teaching experience lower 1 year had the tendency in using main curriculum and curriculum guideline lower than those who had 1-3 years and more than 3- years teaching experience. The teachers who had teaching experience 1-3 years had the tendency in using evaluation instruments lower than the groups of teachers who had lower 1 year and more than 3 years teaching experience. 5. Most of the teachers used the school curriculum document and supplements in order to set the teaching activities, prepared the learning content, improve the method of teaching, prepared teaching materials and improved the method of evaluation. 6. The teachers chose and listed the school curriculum document and supplements in five orders as follows: lesson plans, teacher's manuals/teaching manuals, textbooks, evaluation instruments and exercises. 7. In most of the schools, each teacher was provided curriculum document and supplements and some were kept in the library at the teachers' service. 8. Other documents usually used by the teachers in learning and instruction were forms of learning evaluation and exercises. 9. The problems indicated by the teachers about utilization of the school curriculum document and supplements were the difficulties in understanding the documents, the insufficience of documents and the lack of introduction to documents
