Abstract:
The major objectives of this research were to study and compare the educational philosophical stances of last year Teachers College students at Higher Certificate in Education level and Bachelors Degree level in Northeastern region. It was hypothesized that the educational philosophical stance of the sampled students tended toward the doctrine of Progressivism. It was further hypothesized that there world be no significant difference in educational philosophical stances of each doctrine between the last year students at Higher Certificate in Education level level and Bachelors Degree level. The data for this research were collected by Educational Philosophical Inventory constructed by the researcher which classified into five doctrines : Essentialism, Perennialism, Progressivism, Reconstructionism, and Existentialism. This instrument also classified into four categories : The Meaning of Education, The Purpose of Education, The Elements of Education, and The Learning-Teaching Process. A sample of 619 participated in the research. The obtained data were analyzed statistically by frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Major findings : 1. The educational philosophical stances of last year Teachers College students at Higher Certificate in Education level and Bachelors Degree level tended toward the doctrine of Progressivism. When the analysis was made concerning on the four categories of each doctrine, the results were that The Meaning of Education, The Purpose of Education, and The Elements of Education tended toward the doctrine of Progressivism, whereas The Learning-Teaching Process tended toward the doctrine of Recostructionism. 2. There was no significant difference in educational philosophical stances of each doctrine between last year Teachers College students at Higher Certificate in Education level and Bachelors Degree level at the .01 level.
