Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the motor fitness of the lower secondary school students in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs. The Japan Amateur Sport Association Motor Fitness Test which contained of 5 items was used in collecting data. The items were standing long jump, sit-ups, push-ups, timed shuttle run, and 5-minute distance run. Six hundred boy students and six hundred girl students were randomly selected from the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs. The total amount was twelve hundred students. The obtained data were computed into means, standard deviations, T-Score, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey test for all possible comparison. It was found that: 1. The means of motor fitness total scores of boys and girls of grade 1-3, among the demonstration schools and among each of the levels were significantly different of at the 0.5 level. 2. The means and standard deviations of test items for boys of grade 1 in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs were 1.87 and 0.23 meters for standing long jump, 19.71 and 4.39 times for sit-ups, 16.87 and 7.66 times for push-ups, 37.43 and 2.99 meters for timed shuttle run, 953.70 and 109.70 meters for 5-minute distance run. 3. The means and standard deviations of test items for girls of grade 1 in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs were 1.62 and 0.18 meters for standing long jump, 15.98 and 4.00 times for sit-ups, 11.66 and 5.71 times for push-ups, 34.74 and 3.25 meters for timed shuttle run, 816.00 and 121.15 meters for 5-minute distance run. 4. The means and standard deviations of test items for boys of grade 2 in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs were 2.00 and 0.22 meters for standing long jump, 20.44 and 4.18 times for sit-ups. 19.45 and 8.47 times for push-ups, 38.72 and 3.21 for timed shuttle run, 1047.97 and 218.66 meters for 5-minute distance run. 5. The means and standard deviations of test items for girls of grade 2 in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs were 1.61 and 0.19 meters for standing long jump, 15.73 and 4.49 times for sit-ups, 12.69 and 5.51 times for push-ups, 35.27 and 2.39 meters for timed shuttle run, 837.85 and 147.33 meters for 5-minute distance run. 6. The means and standard deviations of test items for boys of grade 3 in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs were 2.07 and 0.23 meters for standing long jump, 21.50 and 4.36 times for sit-ups, 20.13 and 8.14 times for push-ups, 39.40 and 3.64 meters for time shuttle run, 1071.80 and 188.14 meters for 5-minute distance run. 7. The means and standard deviations of test items for girls of grade 3 in the demonstration schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs were 1.65 and 0.18 meters for standing long jump, 16.37 and 3.69 times for sit-ups, 12.95 and 5.44 times for push-ups, 33.55 and 3.52 meters for timed shuttle run, 882.00 and 156.77 meters for 5-minute distance run.
