Abstract:
The objectives of this study were; 1) to study the morale levels regarding work performance of cabin attendants at the Thai Airways International Public Company Limited classified by personal data; 2) to identify the factors affecting morale of the cabin attendants performance, and 3) to identify the relationship between the factors that affected morale and the morale of cabin attendants performance at the Thai Airways International Public Company Limited. The study samples consisted of 358 participants selected by simple random sampling. The research instrument was a five rating scale questionnaire with a 0.953 reliability. Data were analysed using a commercialized computer software. The statistics used in this research were descriptive statistics which include frequency, percentage, mean and Standard Deviation. Additional, Fishers LSD test, multiple correlation, and t-test were used to analyse the data.
The findings were described as follows:
1. The overall morale on work performance of the first class cabin attendants at the Thai Airways International Public Company Limited was rated at a high level. All individual aspects were rated high, in descending order were; devotion to the organization, unity, and attitude towards work.
2. The difference in each personal factor, namely, gender, age, marital status, education, and income, did not affect the level of morale on work performance differently. However, the difference in the personal factor regarding work experience affected the level of morale on work performance differently with a statistical significance of .05.
3. In regards to the factors that affected the morale on the work performance of the first class cabin attendants at Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, on over all, the motivating factors were found to affect the levels of work morale moderately. The aspects strongly associated with levels of work morale were, perceived success of their work performance, and responsibility; whereas, recognition at work, characteristics of the work, and advancement in career path, had a moderate association with work morale. Considering the hygiene factors, on overall and for each individual aspcet, were found to affect the levels of work morale moderately, The individual aspects listed in descending order of its affect were, interpersonal relationship, supervision, salary, and policy and management.
4. All 5 aspects of the motivating factors, namely, the success of work performeance, recognition, characteristics of work, responsibilities, and advancement in career path; and all 4 aspcets of the hygiene factors, namely, salary, policy and management, interpersonal relationship, and supervision; positively affected the work morale of the first class cabin attendants at Thai Airways International Public Company Limited with a statistical significance of .01.
