Teachers and administrators' needs in improving competency of service and project mangement in elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok metropolitan administration
Abstract:
Purposes : The purposes of this research were to study and compare the needs of the teachers and administrators in improving competencies in the management of the school services and projects in the elementary schools of different sizes and locations under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Procedure : Two sets of questionnaires were constructed and sent to 372 teachers and 155 administrators in 63 elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. These samples were selected by using the stratified random sampling and simple random sampling techniques. The obtained data were analzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, one way analysis of variance and t-test. Findings : 1. The needs of the teachers in the elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in improving competencies in the management of the school services and projects were at high level. They were ranking from the highest as follows : Remedial Teaching, School Health Service, Promotion of Thai Art and culture Project, School Lunch Program, Extra Curricula Activities, Guidance service, Sports and Recreation, Parent Teacher Association. The teachers needs at the moderate level were : Library Service, Scout and Red Cross Youth Project. 2. The needs of the administrators in the elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in improving competencies in the management of the school services and projects were at high level in all 10 areas. They were ranking from the highest as follows : Remedial Teaching, Library Service, Promotion of Thai Art and Culture Project, School Health Service, Guidance Service, Extra Curricula Activities, School Lunch Program, Scout and Red Cross Youth Project, Parent Teacher Association, Sports and Recreation. 3. A comparison of the teachers and administrators needs in improving competencies in the management of services and projects in the elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration according to the school sizes and locations were: 3.1 The needs of the teachers in improving competencies in large, middle and small urban elementary schools were not different at the .05 level. 3.2 The needs of the teachers in improving competencies in large, middle and small rural elementary schools were different at the .05 level. The needs of the teachers in the small schools were higher than the needs of the teachers in the large schools. 3.3 The needs of the administrators in improving competencies in large, middle and small urban elementary schools were not different at the .05 level. 3.4 The needs of the administrators in improving competencies in large, middle and small rural elementary schools were not different at the .05 level. 4. A comparison of the needs in improving competencies in the management of the school services and projects between teachers and administrators in the elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration were : 4.1 At the average, the administrators needs to improve the teachers competencies were at high level and most of the needs of the teachers were also at high level. 4.2 The needs in improving competencies in the management of the school services and projects which were relevant to both teachers and administrators at the high level were : Remedial Teaching, Promotion of Thai Art and Culture Project, School Health Service, School Lunch Program, Extra Curricula Activities, Guidance Service, Sports and Recreation, Parent Teacher Association.
