Abstract: aoi online fiction is a part of a trend in contemporary society. Women not only produce Yaoi or consume Yaoi but also express themselves through this genre of fiction. This study is aimed to (1) analyse the representation of female characters in Yaoi online fiction through the narrative structure and (2) extend the method of analysis of the representation. This study is qualitative analytical research which consists of the analysis and interpretation of the representation of female characters in Yaoi fiction. In order to address the first stated purpose, it was found that female characters participated in the narrative structure differently than males. Some of them were important characters who drove the story to reach the climax and some of them were just participants who fulfilled the story. Incarrying out the second objective,the analysis employed was from the representation theory by Young (1999), in which it was found that women were two main types, victims and mother figures. It was also found that five patterns were used: setting, characters, themes, conflicts and phenomenon. In addition, the researcher chose to investigate genderlect style (Tannen, 1995), and found that most of female characters were represented as the intimacy keepers by their expressions and utterances, which were focused on intimacy rather than hierarchy. Then, using Lakoff’swork on women’s language (1973), the stories which contained more female characters’ utterances tended to contain more of the language that Lakoff described as women’s language, such as I Want to Have Your Baby, The Carnivore, Hopeless Me, Insensible You and Morning After, respectively. However, there was one story which didnot contained any such women’s language: One Year Left.By using three theories: representation theory; language and gender (genderlect style and Lakoff’s women language), it can analyze Yaoi fiction. Moreover, by extracting Yaoi fiction, it can reveal the ideology of women which express through language by using Yaoi as a tool.
