An Analysis of the Language Performance of Thai Teachers' Oral Persentation in Workshops / Supin Chaijumroen
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to analyze communicative and language strategies and language performance used by Thai teachers while doing oral presentation in language workshops. The approach used for this study was discoursed analysis of language styles and language performance of the Thai teachers. The sample were 30 Thai teachers who trained on English language methodology course in Perth Western Australia while doing oral presentation in workshops during August 14- September 8, 2006. Data were collected by video recordings and in-depth interviews. Data analysis was conducted through description analysis and discourse analysis as adapted from tarone. The findings of the study revealed 5 main patterns of language performance : Introduction, giving examples, information presentation, telling story and role play and simulation method. Including to language strategics performed non-verbal, verbal, grammar ignorance, communication strategics, uncompleted sentence un-grammatical language and using repetitive language. Language styles, Thai teachers performed about English language for giving information or telling story by using the medias or visual aids and role playing. Sometime they showed that repetition of words, faulty pronunciation and use of fillers in language performance.
