Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the needs of the labor market following the opening of ASEAN, to study the curriculum at Burapha University, and to find methods for developing the curriculum in order to be prepared for the opening of labor markets. This was carried out using qualitative research using in-depth interviews and content validity. The key informants included the general population and target groups including 15 faculty members, 15 students. From the study it was found that following the opening of ASEAN, the labor market would move in a positive direction, with an increase in demand for labor, in particular for 7 occupations including engineering, nursing, architecture and surveying, accounting, dentistry, and medicine. All universities should improve the qualifications of students at all levels in order to be prepared for the opening of ASEAN. From assessing the curriculum at Burapha University, it was found that there were programs to develop necessary qualities in students, increasing knowledge and capability to communicate in English, as well as encouraging students to study other languages. Other activities focusing on ASEAN were held such as seminars and exhibitions to provide information on ASEAN in order to help in adapting to the changing world and globalization in order to produce graduates who are well prepared to face the changing situation. It was found that Burapha University is developing the curriculum to prepare students for entering the changing labor market, such as through using English as the main language for communication, organizing student and professor exchanges among member countries and each faculty has adapted policies through the organization of programs and improving the curriculum in order to increase preparedness.
