State and need of classroom teachers in teaching art education in small-size elementary schools under the jurisdiction of the Office of Mae Hong Son Provincial Primary Education
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study state and needs concerning teaching activities, production and utilization of teaching media, and testing and evaluation methods use in art teaching. The study also concerned into the relationship between the state and needs in art teaching. Analyzing the data with percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearsons product moment correlation coefficient by using MICROSTAT-computer analyzed program. It was found that there were generally moderate state of practices among the classroom teachers in teaching activities, production and utilization of teaching media, and testing and evaluation methods. Each aspect of practice was separately described as follows. 1. Teaching activities: the most frequent practices were observing and giving help as well as advice to students while they were working. 2. Producing and utilization of teaching media: The most frequent practices were usage of pictures, real objects to motivate students imagination. 3. Testing and evaluation methods: The most frequent practices were to examine the students growth and observing students art learning behavior and were grading their finished works. The needs in teaching art education that concerning teaching activities, production and utilization of teaching media, and testing and evaluation methods were generally superior that each aspect of needs were separately described as follows. 1. Teaching activities: The most needed was to attend training programs in different teaching techniques that could stimulate students interest in art learning. 2. Producing and utilization of teaching media: The most needed was to attend training programs that showed them how to produce media from available or natural materials found in the locality. 3. Testing and evaluation methods: The most needed was an evaluated form for each art activities. It was also found that there was low correlated between state and needs in teaching art education at the significant level of .05 (r = .193)
