Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study and compare the effects of flexibility and muscular strength training upon football throwing performance. Subjects were 40 male students of Satit Mathayom School of Chulalongkorn University by simple random sampling method whose ages were 14-16 years old. The subjects were tested in football throwing performance and then were divided into four groups with 10 subjects in each group by using matched group method. The first group was trained for only football throwing, the second group was trained for football throwing and flexibility, the third group was trained for football throwing and muscular strength, and the fourth group was trained for football throwing together with muscular strength and flexibility. Each group was trained for 10 weeks with 3 days a week. Data were analyzed in terms of means, standard deviations, one-way repeated measurement, analysis of variance and Scheffe'. It was found that: 1. Before and after the experiment, football throwing performances of all four groups were significantly different at the .05 level. 2. After the experiment for 10 weeks, means of flexibility of all groups were not significantly different. 3. After the experiment for 10 weeks, football throwing performance of the third group and the fourth group were significantly better than the first group and the second group at the .05 level. 4. After the experiment for 10 weeks, means of muscular strength of the third group and the fourth group were significantly better than the first group and the second group at the .05 level.
