Abstract:
The purpose of this research aims to analyze the development of concept in the creation of Thai popular music video and to analyze factors that related to this development. The studied framework bases on the integration of various approaches including Communication and Aesthetics in Music, Music as History of Social and Cultural Development, Music Industry and Marketing Communication. This qualitative research utilizes the method of in-depth interview the group of key informants and presentation analysis of music video from past to present. The results of the study are that the development of concept in the creation of Thai popular music video is the part of the development of Thai popular music industry. The related factors to this development are Thai popular music business, style of song and music, technology of video production and editing and the changing of lifestyle. The development of concept in the creation of Thai popular music video which includes form of the presentation, process of production and role and function can be divided into 4 periods: 1) The beginning period (1984-1990), the important concept: song originately inspires to the creative that affected to from of music video as a short story. 2) Focusing on singers image period (1991-1995), the important concept: to communicate emotion of song by present singers image and performance within harmonious edition of video shots and rhythm. 3) Unconventional period (1996-2000), the important concept: to escape from conventional pop music mainstream so the creation employs many special visual techniques to present the new impossible perspective vision that unfamiliar to human seeing. 4) Technique integration period (2001-present), the important concept: to integrate techniques used in the creation of these 3 former to cover the diversity of the target groups. However, the new concept of creation does not completely replace the former concepts. In other words, the creation of presentational form overlaps from time to time. The way of this development proceeds to adapt and expand their form suited to each period. In addition, the role and function of Thai popular music video which is initately promotional media is extended to be an Entertainment Media. Consequently, music video, now, comes to be the new entertainment media that are appreciated by audiences viewing.
