Abstract:
This study is a development of an oily face reducing product containing green tea extract in the form of facial toner. The results were monitored with Sebumeter® before and after the use of the product on day 14 and day 28, consecutively, in 20 volunteers. It was found that a base formulation with the highest satisfaction score (82.3 ± 0.55%; p < 0.05) was stable. The base formulation was further incorporated with green tea extract at 2%, 4.5% and 7% respectively. All of the developed green tea formulas were stable under the accelerated stability test. In addition, none of them caused skin irritation. Anti-greasy efficacy of these formulation were 15.24 ± 4.33, 18.98 ± 0.47 and 15.32 ± 2.39% reduction respectively on day 14 of facial treatment, and was pronounced at day 28 (32.28 ± 5.24, 30.86 ± 0.96 and 30.54 ± 2.35 % reduction respectively). Green tea tonners reduced the facial oiliness better than the base formulation. The 7% green tea toner exhibited significant sebum reduction in 28 day treatment (p < 0.05).
