Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the basketball scoring patterns and scoring-related factors in the Olympic Games 2012. The sample groups were 38 games from 12 final teams in Olympics Games 2012, which were USA, Argentina, France, China, Lithuania, Brazil, Spain, Australia, Tunisia, Nigeria, Russia and Great-Britain. The researcher used Sport Analysis software; Focus X2 Version 1.5, to analyze all games. The data were collected by reviewing AVI files of each game. The obtained data were analyzed in terms of frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation, independent-samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearsons Correlation at .05 level of significance. The results were as follows: There were significant differences between winning and losing teams at the .05 level on assisted tactic and jump-shot technique. The most frequently used offensive scoring pattern by winning and losing teams was assisted tactic (37.84%) and the most frequently used technique was jump-shot (39.48%). It was also found that for winning teams, correlations between dribbling tactic and jump-shot and dunk techniques were .548 and .622 respectively, and between assisted tactic and jump-shot, tap and dunk techniques were .618, .661 and .567 respectively. For losing teams, correlations between assisted tactic and jump-shot, dunk and hook techniques were .702, .392 and .518 respectively, and between set-shot tactic and penalty-shooting technique was .407. In conclusion, winning teams and losing teams had significant difference in collaborative level of playing tactics. The winning teams generally had superior teamwork to pass the ball to an advantageous position to teammates to increase chances to score better than losing teams. Furthermore, winning teams were technically good at utilizing jump-shot technique which was more difficult to defend and better chance to score. And winning teams had higher relationship between tactics and different techniques than losing teams.
