Abstract:
In this study of the loan application behaviors of Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited members had the purpose of studying the customers uses of the cooperatives loan services; the relationships between personal factors and the customers loan service behaviors; and the relationships between economic factors and loan service behaviors of the customers of the Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited. Data was collected from a sample of 382 customers of the Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited, who were using the cooperatives general loans services, emergency loans, capital stock loans, deposit guarantees, common loans, special loans, and security loans. Questionnaires were used to collect the data, and computer programs were used to analyze data in terms of frequency, percentage and through the Chi-Square Test.
The results revealed the following:
1. Personal factors data: The largest groups in this category included females aged 50+, married individuals, people with bachelor's degrees, and teachers.
2. Economic factors data: The most frequently chosen categories included monthly income between 30,001 and 40,000 baht, monthly expenses between 20,001 and 30,000 baht, families of 2 people plus dependents, liabilities over 1,000,000 baht, cooperative membership for more than 15 years, and membership shares of more than 150,000 baht each.
3. Loan service behaviors of the customers of Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited: The most frequently listed behaviors included loan services for common types of personal guarantees; loan amounts between 1,000,001

and 2,500,000 baht; borrowing for family expenses; and repayment schedules of 201 to 360 payments. On average, in a years time, the customers of Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited used the loan service about once. Customers typically said they decided to the use the loan services of the Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited because the cooperative offered more credit than other financial institutions. Most of the customers think that the current loan interest rates of the Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited are appropriate. A plurality of respondents said they had paid off all their debts to the cooperative over the past year. In addition to borrowing money from the cooperative, many also had borrowed from banks. Also, after they had used the loan service from the cooperative, most said that they would be coming back, and they would also recommend the cooperatives loan services to others.
4. Hypothesis 1 hypothesized that personal factors such as age, status, education, and work would be related to loan service behaviors of the customers of the Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited. The hypothesis was supported at confidence level of 0.05.
5. Hypothesis 2 hypothesized that economic factors such as monthly income, monthly expenses, number of dependents, amount of debt, duration of membership in the cooperative, and the value of cooperative shares owned would be directly related to the loan service behaviors of the customers of the Surat Thani Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited. The hypothesis was sustained at a significance level of 0.05.
