Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to develop the non-formal education activity model to enhance self-holistic care of clients in primary health care units. The experimental and controlled samples were 31 clients in each group. Totally, 62 clients in primary health care unit in Kalasin province volunteered to participate in the experiment. The activities consisted of 108 hours of 12 weekly classes. The paired baselines for age, socioeconomic status, blood pressure, and fasting plasma glucose level were conducted. The pre-post tested data were analyzed. The findings were as followed; 1) The developed non-formal and informal education integrated activity model consisted of 4 main levels: general, community, project, results extension, and 12 sub-steps: (1)planning for objectives and learning principles; (2)designing for contents and activities; (3)try-out; (4)evaluating safety; (5)surveying community; (6)assessing context; (7)improving activities by using community resources; (8)designing comprised of dilemma awareness, dialog or discourse, determine premise, diversify attitude; (9)non-formal and informal education integrated activities; (10)evaluating; (11)monitoring the factors and conditions; and (12)reporting the manual. 2) The results of model implementation showed that experimental group improved in knowledge(increased x̄ = 4.26), positive-attitude(increased x̄ = 0.17), negative-attitude(decreased x̄ = 0.09), positive-practicing(increased x̄ = 0.24), negative-practicing(decreased x̄ = 0.09), and other aspects: drug usage, body mass index, waist circumference, global mood scale were better than before experiment with significant different (p-value<0.05) compared to controlled group. 3) The supporting factors included community co-operation, symbolic activities, contents that serve of needs and problems. The conditions were timing, symbolic learning resources and suitable place in community that relevant to the life styles. 4) The results of an evaluation of activity manual and the developed model were reported as very good in health promoting application.
