Randomized split-faced double blind control of the efficacy of topical 4% pueraria mirifica cream versus topical 0.02% tretinoin cream on the treatment of periorbital wrinkle in Thai people
Abstract:
Wrinkle is undesirable when someone get older. Wrinkle treatment comprises many ways. Topical treatment is an interesting one but side effect is unfavorable. Topical treatment for wrinkle with reducing side effect can be continued until the successful treatment. Herb 4%Pueraria mirifica that used to be compared with placebo had no side effect, is interesting to be compared with the standard treatment Objective: to compare with randomized split-faced double blind control trial of the efficacy of topical 4% Pueraria mirifica cream versus topical 0.02% tretinoin cream on the treatment of periorbital wrinkle in Thai people Material and Methods: The total 19 participants with wrinkle were asked to use 4% Pueraria mirifica and 0.02% tretinoin twice daily to the split-faced double blind randomized right or left on the periorbital area. The wrinkle score was measured by Visioscan®V98. The humidity and elasticity score were measured by Cutometer MPA580. All values and the participants pictures were taken at the start of the study, week4, week8, week12. Adverse events were evaluated at week 4, week8, week12 but satisfied scores by participants were evaluated at week12. Pictures taken during the study were evaluated by physicians at week 12 Results: On week12 Wrinkle scores on the eye tail of the participants topical 4% Pueraria mirifica were less than the participiants topical 0.02% tretinoin significantly, but under eye or both areas by average no significance. On week12 Elasticity scores on the eye tail of the participants topical 4% Pueraria mirifica were more than the participants topical 0.02% tretinoin significantly, but under eye or both areas by average no significance. Humidity scores increase in both groups but no significance. Assessment of pictures by physicians in two groups has no significance. There are much more adverse events from 0.02% tretinoin group than 4% Pueraria mirifica significantly. The satisfied scores were significantly better for participants with 4% Pueraria mirifica and at last there are 17 participants (88.5%) who choose 4% Pueraria mirifica for the continued treatment of their periorbital wrinkles But only 2 participants (11.5%) who choose 0.02% tretinoin. Conclusion: The topical periorbital wrinkle treatment with 4% Pueraria mirificica can reduce the wrinkle by Rao Goldman 5-point scoring scale assessment, significantly wrinkle reduction and elasticity increase by visioscan and cutometer on eye tails, humidity increase by corneometer, Participants satisfy significantly wrinkle reduction result and adverse event reduction by 4% Pueraria mirifica cream if compared by 0.02% Tretinoin cream.
