Abstract:
At present, people working in a big city such as Bangkok have to face up to the changing weather all the time due to the problem of global warming affecting sudden changes in the weather condition around the world, including Thailand. The survey has revealed that people of working age have to confront weather changes during the day because they have to commute through temporary heat, cold or rainfall in their daily activities. They also may have to move between a warm outdoors and a cold air-conditioned indoor environment. Further, they may also undertake various lifestyle activities such as long trips on the road during the night. From the said problems, it can be seen that the factor that can work against the weather change is clothing. Upon a study of an analysis of the market in Thailand, there is yet to be found a fashion design brand that is pleasant and practical in dealing with the problem of sudden weather change. The researcher thinks that this is an opportunity to fill an interesting gap in fashion design research by providing guidelines for creating brand identity transformable fashion that can react to sudden changes of weather and be suitable during the day for working people in Bangkok. A comparison has been made to show that human survival can be aided through the use of clothing against weather changes in the same way that living things adapt their structure to survive in nature. A study has been made of a theoretical concept of adaption of living things, ie. plants, one-cell animals, animals and insects, including structural adaption in man-made arts and designs. The study involved a technical process on graphic design work, a technical process on furniture work, and a technical process on architectural work. The aim was to obtain a process of adaptation that could be applied in fashion design as an answer to the problem of sudden weather change. The research findings reveal that the creation brand identity transformable fashion consists of the following processes: folding, wrapping, stacking, furling, level adjusting, flipping, extending, modular assembling, deconstructing, and being fluorescent. Moreover, these processes should be coupled with a choice of material and textile innovation that allows for the non-absorbtion of water and good ventilation. The clothing should further be partially decorated with fluorescent material, improving safety for those taking a trip on the road at night. The creation of fashion brand identity that can be transformable to react to sudden changes of weather is a response to the concern with global warming. Fashion innovation can also be useful to future academic research, designers, and those in the fashion and textile industries.
