Abstract:
To study Mahachat manuscripts originated in Sipsongpanna. The study informs that there are four different versions of Mahachat in Sipsongpanna, namely, Han Hao, Meng Bo, Nang Lha, and Pha Khaw. Han Hao version which is the best one of them is selected to transliterate from Tai Lues script to Thais script and analyze the literary techniques and reflection of society and culture, limited in chapter 1-7. The study reveals that there are four literary techniques in the Tai Lue Mahachat chapter 1-7, the technique to create a fine voice, the beauty in words, the elegant meaning and the chapters name. The most outstanding literary techniques is the technique to create the beauty in words, especially, the splendid selection of words which can deeply express the characters emotions and create the clearly images. Beside, the use of characters name can perfectly support the reader to understand the characters characteristics. The study of the reflection of society and culture shows that there are five reflections appeared in the Tai Lue Mahachat chapter 1-7, the reflection of local value, local lifestyle, local society, local beliefs and local nature. Each of the reflection represents that the characters, society and Tai Lues culture displayed in the Tai Lue Mahachat chapter1-7 is inseparably concerned to the culture of Tai Lue people in Sipsongpanna and these reflections also apparently manifested their life, value, beliefs, and the others culture of them.
