Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyze cohesion in the Thai supplementary books of the Prathomsueksa 1 and 2 students in three issues that are reference, ellipsis and conjunction. The sampling in this study is 21 entertainment tales by Office of the Basic Education Commission 2552 (B.E.). Data card was employed for data collection. The finding showed that reference consists of two types, 1) pronoun reference with three aspects, that are, a personal pronoun, first person, second person and third person, words acting as pronoun comprising of two types, proper name and nouns show ownership, and zero aspect, which indicates a reference by a noun unit acting as the subject and object, 2) a reference by an indication with two aspects, partly demonstration and fully demonstration. The cohesion by ellipsis consists of two characteristics that are, noun ellipsis which is an elision of noun, and verb ellipsis which is an elision of verb phrase. There are 6 types of the cohesion by conjunction, concessive relation, contradictory relation, conditional relation, causal relation, effect relation, and alternative relation. The function of conjunction can be divided into 3 types, 1) combination between noun and noun, 2) verb and noun and 3) sentence and sentence. In the occurrence of conjunction, there are 3 locations, that are, the initial position of a sentence, the initial and mid of a sentence, and the mid of sentence.
