Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis were to study concerning desirable characteristics of Pediatric nurses and compare the opinions concerning desirable characteristics of nursing administrators, nursing instructors and Pediatric nurses, and to study the sequence of the essential characteristics of Pediatric nurses. The research samples consisted of 80 nursing administrators, 80 nursing instructors and 140 Pediatric nurses, selected by simple random sampling from the population in the government and private hospitals in Bangkok Metropolis, these hospitals must closely related to the nursing schools. The questionnaires used in this study was developed by the researcher and had been validity for its by 10 experts. The content of the questionnaires was about nursing practice, personality and human relation and professional ethics. Percentage, Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, one way analysis of variance, and Tukey (b) Method were statistical procedures used to analyze data in this study. The major findings were as follows: 1. The opinions of nursing administrators, nursing instructors and Pediatric nurses concerning desirable characteristics of pediatric nurse indicated in the questionnaire were at the strongly agree level in every aspects i.e. nursing practice, personality and human relation and professional ethics. 2. The comparison of the means of nursing administrators nursing instructors and pediatric nurses opinions concerning the desirable characteristics of Pediatric nurses showed that; 2.1 The means of the opinions concerning the characteristics related to nursing practice aspects of the 3 research sample groups were statistically different at the .01 level. Thus, the first research hypothesis was accepted. When comparing between each two groups, there was significant difference between the means of the nursing administrators and nursing instructors opinions, and the means of nursing instructors and Pediatric nurses opinions. There wasnt significant difference between the means of nursing administrators and Pediatric nurses opinions. 2.2 There was significant difference between the means of the opinions of personality and human relation of nursing administrators, nursing instructors and Pediatric nurses. Thus, the second research hypothesis was rejected. When comparing between each groups, there was significant difference between the means of nursing instructors and Pediatric nurses opinions at the .01 level. There wasnt significant difference between nursing administrators and nursing instructors opinions, and nursing administrators and Pediatric nurses opinions. 2.3 The mean of the opinions concerning the characteristics related to professional ethics aspects of the 3 research sample groups were statistically different at the .01 level. Thus, the third research hypothesis was rejected. When Comparing between each two groups, there wasnt significant difference between the means of nursing administrators and Pediatric nurses opinions, There were significant difference between the means of nursing instructors and nursing administrator opinions at the .05 level, and the means of nursing instructors and pediatric nurses opinions at the .01 level. 3. The opinions of nursing administrators, nursing instructors and Pediatric nurses concerning the sequence of essential characteristics of Pediatric nurses were: 1. possessing the observation skill, the skill in recognizing the ever changing signs and symptoms of sick children and able to give nursing care immediately. 2. Knowing and understanding the physical and psychological growth and development of children. 3. Able to analyze the collected data in order to find the childs problems and needs. 4. Hold the positive attitude and value the nursing profession. 5. Active and able to make appropriate decision at the appropriate time.
