Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate causativization in Nyah Kur by analyzing the features of the causative sentence. Two aspects of the simple causative sentence are considered : the forms of the verb prefixes and the cases of the nouns in the sentence. Also, two aspects of the complex causative sentence are considered : the main verb, which determines the case of the noun-subject of the major sentence and determines the type of the verb in the minor sentence, and the verb in the minor sentence, which determines the case of the noun which functions as the subject of the minor sentence. From the analysis of the data it may be concluded that there are two processes of causativization in Nyah Kur : 1) morphological : prefixation of /pə-/, /tə-/, /khə-/ and /kə-/ to the main verb which is intransitive; the distribution of these prefixes is morphologically conditioned. The cases of the nouns which occur in this type of causative sentence must include at least agent and patient ; other cases, such as source, etc., may or may not occur. 2) syntactic: use of the causative verb / páa?/ to make or /?úər/ to have sb. do sth. In front of a sentence. The cases of the noun-subject of the causative verb, which is the main verb of the sentence, include agent and instrument. The types of verbs occurring in the minor sentence of this causative sentence type include process, action, and action-process verbs. The cases of the noun which functions as the subject of the minor sentence include agent, experiencer, and patient.
