Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the teaching pro¬blems of physical education student teachers, Srinakharinwirot Univer¬sity, Palasuksa campus. Three sets of questionnaires in the forms of check-list, rating-scales, and open-ended were constructed and sent to 21 supervisors, 62 cooperating teachers and 150 student teachers. Eighty percent of ques¬tionnaires were returned. The results were then analyzed in to means, percentages, and through the analysis of variance method. It was found that most of the problems encountered by student teachers were lesson-planning both short and long ranges, setting up the behavioral objectives, and selection and organization of suitable activities according to the stated objectives. In addition, student teacher did not acknowledge their own defects and possess knowledge in solving them simultaneously and corrcetly. Besides, they also lacked facilities and equipment and initiatives in adapting the teaching aids they possessed to appropriate teaching-learning activities. Moreover, audio-visual aids and sports venues were inadequate. Class administration was another problem as student teachers could not remember all the students names and also, the number of students were too great to be able to closely take care of and consequently time for giving advices was not enough. Finally, it was found that there was a poor coordina¬tion between cooprating teachers and supervisors and both lacked adequate experience in supervision. Through the analysis of variance, it was found that the points of view as stated by supervisors, cooperating teachers and student teachers on the problems concerning teaching and learning, class-admi¬nistration, and supervisors themselves was not significantly different at the level of .05. However, there was a significant difference among those of the same groups on the problems concerning equipment, schools, student-teachers and cooperating teachers at the .05 level.
