The development of an online English test practice system for IELTS preparation

Abstract: The objective of this master project was to develop a web-based application for an English test practice system for IELTS preparation which is designed to provide additional services to students who want to improve their English proficiency capabilities, especially on the IELTS test. Furthermore, the system provides online access to the IELTS test practice for students at academic institutions, enabling students to practice and to become familiar with the many types of modules and questions on the IELTS test. This system also enables the instructors to create, store and manage the question bank easily. In addition, the system enables the administrator to manage the students and instructors information, manage user accounts, manage user authorities and news as well as help the instructor to manage the IELTS question bank. The system functionalities and usability were evaluated by using questionnaires, with 23 users which involve 20 students, 2 English instructors and a web specialist administrator. The evaluation results show that the system is easy to access via web, uses appropriate terms and is easy to navigate between the pages. Most of users also found that the system is useful for practicing the IELTS test, especially in the area of reading, listening and writing practice test. However, some users suggested that the using of interesting colors, multimedia, a graphical user interface and adding more content to the practice modules would be better. A sample of users had also evaluated all functionalities of the system; it shows that the functions worked correctly.

Abstract: วัตถุประสงค์ของสารนิพนธ์นี้ คือการพัฒนาเว็บแอพพลิเคชันสำหรับการฝึกฝนและเตรียม ความพร้อมสำหรับการสอบภาษาอังกฤษ IELTS ระบบนี้ออกแบบมาเพื่อบริการนักศึกษาที่ ต้องการเพิ่มพูนความรู้ ความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งสำหรับผู้ที่ต้องการ สอบ IELTS นักศึกษาสามารถฝึกหัดทำข้อสอบ IELTS ผ่านทางอินเทอร์เน็ตออนไลน์ ซึ่งการ ฝึกหัดนี้จะทำให้นักศึกษาเกิดความคุ้นเคยกับการทำข้อสอบในโมดูลต่างๆ รวมถึงคำถาม ที่มีอยู่ในข้อสอบ IELTS สำหรับอาจารย์ผู้สอน ก็สามารถสร้าง จัดเก็บ จัดการคลังข้อสอบได้ โดยสะดวก อีกทั้งในส่วนผู้ดูแลระบบ สามาถจัดการข้อมูลของผู้ใช้ต่างๆ ทั้งนักศึกษาและอาจารย์ ตลอดจน ข้อมูลข่าวสาร ในการจัดการกับคำถามต่าง ๆ ในคลังข้อสอบได้ง่าย ระบบนี้มีการ ประเมินการทำงานและการใช้งาน โดยอาศัยการตอบแบบสอบถาม จากผู้ใช้ 23 คน เป็นนักศึกษา 20 คน ครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษ 2 คน และจากผู้ดูแลเว็บ จากการประเมินนี้พบว่า ระบบนี้ สามารถใช้งานผ่านทางเว็บได้ง่าย และเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการฝึกฝนสำหรับการเตรียบสอบ IELTS โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง การอ่าน การฟัง และการฝึกเขียน อย่างไรก็ดีผู้ใช้บางคนแนะนำให้มีการเพิ่ม ข้อสอบในการฝึกหัด เลือกใช้สี และมัลติมีเดีย เพื่อทำให้ระบบน่าใช้มากขึ้น ซึ่งในการประเมินนี้ ผู้ ร่วมประเมินได้ประเมินการทำงานของระบบในทุกส่วน และได้ผลการทำงานที่ถูกต้อง
