Abstract:
The objectives of this research were twofold. Firstly, to find suitable and appropriate designs for role playing computer games, whilst the game was in use. Secondly, to contribute to interface graphic design layout development in the computer game industry. The sample group selected for this study was five experts, lecturers with direct experience in grapic design for computer games. Data was collected by means of a questionnaire and picture frames showing the interface layout of the computer game while in operation. The questionnaire required the sample group to prioritise five variables. Statistical analysis of the values returned was obtained by percentage and standard deviation using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). The results of the analysis indicated that the preferred sequence for suitable and appropriate design was a) Position, b) Colour, c) Visual Texture, d) Illustrationand e) Shape and Form. This information may also contribute to interface graphic design layout development in the computer game industry.
